Okay, this is a big one for me, buckle in.
About the game: it is literally everything I ever wanted out of a game? Its like minecraft, but with a story, a better block grid system, water physics that make sense, more decorations and easier placement systems, the crafting system is mostly timers but it makes sense, it keeps you busy, it is enjoyable. Farming for materials is genuinely fun, I have put down a big old garden, currently working on a third main base. Plus great amount of exploration, coop options. Character customization. Like fucking Valheim but better in every way. More frequent updates, better updates, accessibility settings for grind amounts, aka valueing your time, arachnophobia mode, etc etc etc. All this and it is still in early access, 1.0 is coming at the end of this year and it is exciting. Go play it right now. Dont even finish reading this. Gogogogo-
Progress: exploring the latest biome they added with the water update. having a grand old time. 300+ hours right now. It does help playing with friends, but the game has an official discord server just dedicated to finding someone to play with. The building, pardon my french but that shit gets me hard, Im so excited about it. The starter base is a beautiful organically growing mess with all the NPCs- I HAVENT MENTIONED THE NPCs so you can get NPCs who are helping you craft, send you on quests to get you out to explore, you have to provide a home for them, like set up a sheltered room with a bed they will actually go and sleep in if you let them. It makes your base feel so alive and is pretty rewarding! You also get tree cats and dogs you can tame and bring home! You can PET THEM AND THEY BUFF YOU it is a delight. Regular villagers who just live and dont interact much exist too. Farm animals too, most wildlife creatures you encounter you can bring home and get a stable for and feed them and you get resources. Still optional though, you can just go out and obliterate them in the wild if you crave violence but i am judging you for it. GLIDERS TEHRE ARE GLIDERS you can fly around the map from any vantage points! Double jump allows for some wild parkour up the steepest ledges too, you can make your own stairs anywhere anytime with pickaxes, its great.
Yeah, okay, so let me yap about the bases: first off generally the map will reset each time you start the game, only areas where you put down a flame altar (you are a flameborn) are exempt and will save any terraforming or building you do on them. You get 10 right now, they act as teleportation points as well.
• currently living in the starter base in the very starting area, aka where the tutorial suggests you set up an altar for the first time. But this base is bursting at the seams. It went from a little hut to a little hut and three huts, to three huts and a castle, to a 3 tiered crafting hall and a castle with four towers, then expanded the castle by twice its size, added a new chonky main tower, added all the interior, kept it open as per request, everything is parkour-able. You can zoom around the entire place. Added a little separate garden with five different houses to home the NPCs around a courtyard that has a strawberry field and a bunch of all kinds of flowers. Then added a whole stable section and a a meadow for the animals to dash around in. Then added several more villager buildings to keep the other NPCs happy, ofc there is a storage building that is overflowing as well. So is the crafting hall. Right now the plan is to move.
• not to base nr. 2 that one is currently just for looks and was built before they introduced water into the game, BUT it is inspired by the hanging gardens of babylon. Sounds like a contradiction but we just used ice to mimic water and it looks amazing tbh. It sits as this green oasis in the dessert, stunning. It is still unfinished because the new water update was a huge distraction-
• which leads me to base nr. 3 which is currently under construction but it will easily be my favourite, I just know it. It is in a spot SO GOOD that I have not heard anyone talk about. It was my friends idea to build there and it just shows that they are brilliant. Basically the mountain/snow biome has a boss at the top of it and next to but just barely far enough away are two peaks that sit on top of that mountain and we are building in between them, setting up for this massive castle with three floors and two towers. The NPCs are supposed to move with us, as is the storage system and the vital interior. The area also allows you to just jump off and fly into most of the three adjacent biomes, it almost feels like cheating but its such a huge shortcut. The view is okay, like yes you can see the entire map but rendering is not as detailed from a distance. Having that big boss as your pet in the background is an amazing bonus though. Also using way more fancy materials for this base. It will be dark and green tones, mostly stone, silvery pillars, grand hall. Very excited about it. In fact I might go play it right now-
Recommend: Yes, obviously. Ought to be my favourite game right now. 11/10
